… a little baby girl named Kristen was welcomed into this world.

When I look at these images it makes me wonder what my own parents were thinking of me at the time. Did they wonder what I was going to be like? My personality? My likes and dislikes? Can you look at someone at birth and even remotely fathom what sort of life they would lead and how they would make their own way in the world? If someone had said to them ‘here’s your baby girl, she’s going to grow up to be a photographer’ would they have believed them? What did they dream for me? What was I like?

Of course it’s impossible to know these details in advance, but what I’m sure they did know was there ‘here and now’ of me. The wispy hair, the squashed up nose, the pudgy fingers. That was me, then. At that point in time that was my reality, my world, that was all of me.

So… here I am now.
Thirty years later.
The big THREE-ZERO.

I must admit I’m not really a birthday person. Most years my birthdays pass with little fuss or fancy, and it’s only on the insistence of my sister that I am actually doing something about it this year. So thank you Em for making me celebrate the big one this year, I know it will be worth it all in the end :) Now I get to celebrate me in the here and now, and isn’t hindsight a beautiful thing?

And just to top off a wonderful day, I’d also like to welcome two little babies into the world yesterday and today (Isla and Angus)  born to two gorgeous friends of mine, who get to also share a pretty good star sign with yours truly ;)
