When you’re smiling | Newborn photographer, Melbourne

    Keep on smiling
    Cause when you’re smiling
The whole world smiles with you…

    Just. Love. | Newborn photographer

Sometimes there are no words to express what you feel as a newborn photographer when you are surrounded by moments of such love and such beauty… simple. beautiful. love.

    Magic | Newborn photographer, Melbourne

My last day in Canada. It is right that it deserves a post of its own(…. well, two posts, stay tuned!).

The incredible Raye Law also came to visit the Brown household, and so for my very last day I was surrounded by such amazing talent from two wonderful photographers and friends.  Being able to work together to create beautiful memories for such a special little person brought such joy. These women are inspiring. It was such an honour to even be there at that time to welcome Will into the world, but to have those two women by my side that day, made it a day I will not soon forget.

    It was, quite simply, magic.

In the afternoon, Raye and I captured some of the most amazing moments of tenderness and connected love between Will and his beautiful parents (of which Raye got my favourite shot of the day), and I can’t wait to share those very soon.

But, for now, my goodbye images of the strong, handsome, loving and inquisitive Will Brown…

Baby Will | Newborn photographer, Melbourne

I watched each day as baby Will got bigger, grew stronger, formed connections and bonded lovingly with those around him. Every.single.day I felt thankful to be near him. There was a peacefulness in his breath, a quietness that confirmed everything that was pure and honest in the world.

By the end of my stay we had already learned of his little personality traits – his preference to have his hands by his face to comfort him while he slept, his ability to sneeze multiple times in a row followed by a cute sigh of satisfaction, his inquisitive one-eyed slumber… it was all beautiful.

A showcase of just a a sprinkling of the amazing 10 days we spent together… (and trust me friends, the best is still yet to come. My last and final day in Canada deserves a post all of it’s very own for so many reasons, so be sure to check back in soon)

Will’s Birth Day | Newborn photography Melbourne

Will Courtney Brown was welcomed into the world at 2:17am on the 23rd of June, 2010 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I felt life at that moment. I experienced it deep within. It moved me on a level far to great for me to even comprehend at the time. It was (as my friend Lana puts it so perfectly) nothing short of soul nourishing. I feel so blessed to have been asked to be present as a photographic storyteller at his birth.

He breathed life into his lungs and his journey began. His cries of the unknown cut through the air and bounced off the adrenalin and joy that was so tangible in the room that night. Then there was silence… a beautiful silence. Although his eyes were already open, he was truly seeing for the first time. The electrcity between him and his gorgeous mama was palpable as she held him tightly still not quite believing he was hers.  “I want to see his face” she kept saying over and over as she tried to turn him around and lift him up to eye level. Next, his daddy held him tight and kissed his little fingers that had wrapped around his own. Time stood still.

Baby Will’s future is infinite – a blank page, an amazing story yet to be written, filled with endless possibilities and dreams. At that moment, that beautiful moment, he entered the world surrounded and protected by love. The magnificence of that ocassion made me feel deeply alive and humbled me in a way I will never easily forget.

    Welcome Will…

The Beauty I See | Maternity photography, Melbourne

I arrived in Canada on a Wednesday.

It had been a long trip to get there, but I was completely running on adrenalin that it didn’t seem to matter. I remember coming down the stairs at the airport leading out to the public waiting area seeing Kerianne’s beautiful face smiling at me. I felt so blessed right at that moment to be where I was.

For the next two and a bit weeks I would be lucky enough to share deeply in the lives of this beautiful family. I would watch their final stages of pregnancy, document the anticipated birth and welcoming of an amazing new person and share in the start of his life to come.

The creation of life is tender, beautiful and infused with care.
    We connected in the quietness.
This exploration of truth in the moment not only created some beautiful images of some amazing people, but some fond memories for my heart to sing.

    Miracle | Melbourne baby photographer

The child must know that he is a miracle,
that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world there will not be,
    another child like him

    Hello, friends.

Stay tuned for my beautiful journey to Canada and my story in images of the wonderful human beings I was fortunate enough to connect with.

Studio News (reopening Monday 12 July 2010)

I will be taking a very well deserved break for a little while, and heading off overseas! My beautiful friend Kerianne Brown is going to be welcoming a brand new little man into the world any day now, and I could not feel more honoured and excited to be flying all of the way over to Canada to share in this amazing time in her life and to welcome this little person with such joy and love. I am so grateful to be able to spend some quality time with Kerianne and our gorgeous friend Raye Law who will also be flying over. It has been a long while in the making and I am so looking forward to this beautiful time ahead.

As such the studio will close Monday 14 June 2010 and reopen on Monday 12 July 2010. During this time, I will have very limited access to internet and email and no access to voicemail while I am away (I will not even be taking my phone with me). If the matter is urgent and cannot wait until my return, please send me an email and I will do my best to respond when I can. Otherwise, all voicemail messages and most emails will be returned after Monday 12 July.

Australian Professional Photography Awards | Melbourne baby photographer

Last weekend, the Australian Professional Photography Awards (or the APPAs) were held in Melbourne. This annual event draws talent from all over the country and showcases some amazing work from some very wonderful photographers across a whole broad spectrum of genres. This year, as an emerging photographer, I entered three prints and was fortunate to receive three awards (two silvers and one silver with disinction). Two of these three prints I also entered into the Victorian Professional Photographer of the Year Awards (VPPYs) along with two other prints, and also received two silvers and one silver with distinction at the State awards. I was blown away, to say the least, to be recognised for the work that I do for my clients, by my industry peers. Thank you to the beautiful babes who featured in this work for making those prints as special as they were.

For me though, the best part about this amazing weekend is the opportunity to meet and network with some of the most amazing photographers in Australia. Being able to catch up with those that are positioned all around the country, as well as meeting some fabulous new people make this time what it is. I am seriously humbled and amazed at the wonderful talent that our country has, and just to be part of that last week was a complete honour in itself. Thank you to all of my friends, new and old, for filling my heart with such warmth.

If you’re interested in learning more about the APPAs, you can visit the official website here.

The Special Two | Melbourne twin newborn photography

I waited so long to meet them. Even after the news of their birth every day that went by before I got to say hello seemed like a lifetime of wonderful anticipation. Hours turned to days turned to weeks.  Their journey into this world was not an easy one – they fought, they grew, they battled. Every new breath they took was another beautiful reminder to their mama of just how lucky she was to have them, to love them, to embrace these exquisite miracles that she had waited so long for.

New life is amazing. And these special two have each other.
