Baby Steps

Today is Mother’s Day.
I had written a beautiful post in advance and had set it to publish today, but have changed my mind at the eleventh hour.
Instead, I will be sharing something a little more personal.
Earlier this year, my sister’s body failed her.
She had been prescribed medication for a work-related shoulder injury.
Essentially, this became toxic and caused her limbs to literally stop working.
She could not move.
Could not lift her finger.
Certainly, she could not walk.
Her recovery was intensive – it took months.
These were her baby steps.
Her path to recovery.
And through it, our mum was there.
Every.step.of.the.way.
Literally.
It is hard enough seeing a sibling have to endure something like this.
As a mum however, I can only imagine the sting in her heart.
And how I would be feeling if this were me.
As much as this is a tribute to the enormous pride I feel for my sister in the recovery that she has made
This is also for my mum.
For the rock that she is
For what she has done
And because you’re never too old for your mum.
