Photo-a-day: Day 25 | Melbourne baby photography

Day 25: Oh what a cruel world it is when mummy won’t let you have those yummy, sugar-filled, heavenly tasting treats that are sitting on the supermarket shelf just out of your reach…

Day 24: For some reason, Charlie Boy thinks that ‘peek-a-boo’ is the funniest thing ever. He giggles uncontrollably most of the time when you say it to him, and watching his little face light up is enough of a reward to keep you going back for more.

Day 23: Mia loves it when I feed Charlie. She often sits beside me just watching him, stroking his hair or giving me a cuddle. Like most toddlers with new siblings, she’s now bestowing the same lovely attention on her dolls. She sits down on the couch and feeds each one (making sure to burp them before switching sides, of course), and then if they’re “still hungry”, they’ll have some more. Watching the look on her face is the nicest part though. It’s the beautiful look of concentration and care that seems to come over her – she is a beautiful, sweet soul. So enamoured with her baby brother, and everything that goes with it.

Day 21:  I feel like I’m having a bad case of déjà vu with this project. Charlie is going through a horrid catnapping stage during the day and it’s driving me a bit insane. It doesn’t help that the both Charlie and Mia are now sharing a room together as of a few days ago. Mia loves it – she thinks it’s a party when Charlie goes to bed. They sit there and talk to each other through the rails of Charlie’s cot, and I have to admit, it melts your heart a bit hearing them giggling at each other.

They often do the same thing in the car at the moment. Charlie will look over at Mia with a massive grin on his face, and Mia will giggle at him, which in turn makes me laugh. It is amazing how something like that can bring you so much joy. Something like a cheeky giggle can be so small and simple, but just mean so much.

This was how I found Charlie when only 30 minutes after putting him to bed I heard lots of giggling and gurgling going on in the bedroom, and so decided to go in and check. Go on, tell me who could get mad at that?!

Day 22: Mia can’t get enough of daycare. It’s one of the few ways we can willingly get her into bed at night just by mentioning that the next morning she’ll be going there to visit. Her little eyes light up and sparkle. I never thought we’d get to this stage though. She’s such a mummy’s girl and so wary of strangers that I was worried when she first started how she would cope long term. Now, I barely get a wave goodbye as she runs in to play with the other kids, and trying to bring her home again usually involves some sort of bribery. Yep, she loves it!

One of her favourite parts is packing her bag for the day. She takes such delight in helping me prepare her lunch and snacks and lovingly packs it all away, and does up all of the zips at the top. The bag then goes on her back (with mummy’s help, of course) and she trots off to put her shoes on and get in the car ready to leave.

Day 20: One of my favourite images from last year’s photo-a-day project, was the back of one of Mia’s curls. I wanted so badly to try and update it this year – her hair grows at a snail’s pace, and so photos like this make me realise it has actually grown a lot in the last 12 months. I’ve never cut her hair, and I can’t bring myself to do it when it’s still so fine and short. I will cut it… I’m sure… eventually…

Day 19: Hands down, bath time is Charlie’s favourite part of his day (well, besides feeding…). He rolls, he gurgles, he laughs, he coos, he grins, he sings, he waves, he kicks, he loves…

Day 17: I adore this baby stage. The stage where they can reach their toes and find all delight in trying to eat them. The stage where you put them down and the first thing they do is bring their little feet above them into the air and grab them with their hands.

Day 18: He is such a happy boy. Attention seeking, sure – but on the whole, he’s one contented baby. It’s this beautiful face that greets me every morning when I wake up and the same face I see right before I put him to bed at night. I never, ever want to forget this face. This beautiful open mouth smile and his sparkly eyes that light me up inside. Never, ever.

Day 16: Yep, she’s a girly girl. She raids my makeup drawer on an almost daily basis – and although she has a bit of work getting her coordination right when it comes to applying makeup, I’m pretty impressed that she knows what goes where (or near enough).

And I know I normally only post one per day (and the above is my official one) I can’t go without posting the unofficial ‘after’ shot of her masterpiece:

Day 15: Guess who learnt to jump? With both feet off the ground…?

Today’s photo-a-day was a very close race between this photo, and one capturing the look on her face when she realised she was doing it properly. Completely and utterly priceless. I could have cried I was so proud of her.
