Australian Professional Photography Awards | Melbourne baby photographer

Last weekend, the Australian Professional Photography Awards (or the APPAs) were held in Melbourne. This annual event draws talent from all over the country and showcases some amazing work from some very wonderful photographers across a whole broad spectrum of genres. This year, as an emerging photographer, I entered three prints and was fortunate to receive three awards (two silvers and one silver with disinction). Two of these three prints I also entered into the Victorian Professional Photographer of the Year Awards (VPPYs) along with two other prints, and also received two silvers and one silver with distinction at the State awards. I was blown away, to say the least, to be recognised for the work that I do for my clients, by my industry peers. Thank you to the beautiful babes who featured in this work for making those prints as special as they were.

For me though, the best part about this amazing weekend is the opportunity to meet and network with some of the most amazing photographers in Australia. Being able to catch up with those that are positioned all around the country, as well as meeting some fabulous new people make this time what it is. I am seriously humbled and amazed at the wonderful talent that our country has, and just to be part of that last week was a complete honour in itself. Thank you to all of my friends, new and old, for filling my heart with such warmth.

The Special Two | Melbourne twin newborn photography

I waited so long to meet them. Even after the news of their birth every day that went by before I got to say hello seemed like a lifetime of wonderful anticipation. Hours turned to days turned to weeks.  Their journey into this world was not an easy one – they fought, they grew, they battled. Every new breath they took was another beautiful reminder to their mama of just how lucky she was to have them, to love them, to embrace these exquisite miracles that she had waited so long for.

New life is amazing. And these special two have each other.

Lindsey + Fabien | Wedding photography, Melbourne

My lovely friend Lana rang me a while ago and asked if I wanted to join her in photographing the beautiful celebration of love between Lindsey and Fabien. And such a celebration it was…

It always surprises me the effort and care that couples take when planning every single detail of their wedding.  Lindsey’s extraordinary gown was handmade and even her dress maker was present on the day of the wedding to make sure it was fitted to perfection. The flowers… such beauty. I have never seen such an intricate, detailed and well made bouquet in my life. Honestly, these wedding suppliers were second to none. Lindsey and Fabien’s gorgeous girl Elodie walked down the aisle to the music from In the Night Garden and Lindsey entered to Bella’s Lullaby from Twilight – even their music choices were well thought through.

And the venue… Hopewood. I have nothing but fond things to say of this enchanting place. My heart felt instantly happy the second you started walking through the grounds. Such love, and so many beautiful things for eyes to feast upon. It suited Lindey’s French heritage to a tee.

Such beauty and joy…

And the attention to detail continued… right through to the cocktail style ’party’ section of the evening. The reception was divided between two rooms – one room with two long tables for guests to sit down and eat (Lindsey mentioned she wanted it to feel like it was everyone sitting down for a family dinner, and I truly was), and afterwards a gorgeous room completely interior designed by Lindsey right down to the square ottomons to sit on and these little floral arrangements on the tables. Each one was different, but oh so beautiful.

Thank you Lindsey and Fabien for sharing your beautiful love, and allowing Lana and I to document it for you.

What love looks like | Melbourne newborn photographer

Tuesday’s child is full of grace…

{Loved beyond measure before she was even born, and welcomed into such an amazing family. Nick and Tuesday, she will be passionate, thoughtful, giving, kind and true – all because of you. And dear Willow – you have no idea how fortunate you are to be part of this tender family unit. Truly, you will grow into an amazing person and I can’t wait to witness it.}

Back to Centre | Baby photographer, Melbourne

When do we stop moving with our heart? Daring to do as we please? Following our instincts? Taking pleasure in the small moments – such as the feel of a new texture between our fingers or truly connecting for the first time with a person we have not met before?

When do we start closing our eyes? Thinking before doing? Putting up shields?

My time spent with these little people as a baby photographer always brings me back to centre. I watch in facsination as they explore, feel, love, play, laugh, look, cuddle – everything is wonderful and nothing is overdone. The time I spent with Harry was just like this. He made me remember to open my eyes, think with my heart and just simply be present in that moment with him.

Beautiful. Simple. Perfect.

{The simplest of play time can be so rewarding. Thank you Michelle for introducing Harry into my life.}

Genuine | Baby photographer, Melbourne

Babies are genuine. They are infinitely giving and authentic.
They are not tainted with knowledge, or power, or greed and have no desire (or need) to be anything other than themselves.
They are pure light.  They grow with love and embrace the feeling of a simple smile with as much energy and passion their heart can muster.

{He was so true to me, Lisa – an indication of that beautiful love and support he experiences every day. Thank you}

A happy day | Melbourne baby photography

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees or stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
- Max Ehrmann

Thank you sweet baby girl for filling my heart with light. We laughed so much I had tears in my eyes, we embraced closely and danced together in the sunrays greeting us through the window.

I’m so happy I was meant to meet you.

{So precious a heart she has, Pavani and Theo. A special soul indeed}

Studio News | Melbourne baby photography

Just a quick announcement to let you know that I will be interstate for the next week and will have extremely limited access to email and phone while I am away. If the matter is urgent, please send me an email or leave me a message, however otherwise I will be sure to try and get back to you all next week upon my return.

In the meantime – have a beautiful week. Enjoy your families, your friends and your quiet time.

I’ll leave you with an image of this gorgeous little girl from a recent session I have yet to blog (as well as many, many other sessions that have still not seen the light of day on my blog due to being so busy behind the scenes) – she is so fortunate to have three older sisters who will be there to show her the way in life. She will have the wisdom of their experience, the kindess of their friendship and the beautiful connection from such a loving family. She is a lucky soul.

Connected | Baby photography Melbourne

There is a quiet that comes over me when I genuinely connect with my babies.
An inner calm.
I feel grounded.
Their honesty infuses my heart.
My soul feels lighter.
I love being able to create a space for parents to connect in that quietness with their baby; the extension of their own tenderness.
I love even more when for a moment, even if for just a moment, that baby seems to connect back to them in return.

{Selima and Andrew – enjoy her, love her, appreciate her. That’s all she can ask of you}
