What a weekend | Melbourne photographer

Does anyone else ever feel like they need a holiday from a holiday? Not that you can really count my weekend in Sydney as a holiday, but surely getting on a plane counts for something.

Even though I moaned and groaned through my back and pelvic pain (yep, pelvic instability in pregnancy, hooray!!) I actually had one of the best weekends I have had since… well, as long as I can remember that’s for sure. I spent the entire weekend in meet-n-greets, dinners, networking, general insane girly chatter, APPA and PMA ogling style – and loved every moment of it. My head is still a bit sore after this whirlwind weekend but it was so lovely to be able to spend time with some gorgeous photographers from all over Australia. Doing what I do can feel rather isolating at times (as many would agree!), so I’m so happy to get out there and have the chance to rub shoulders with other pros in the industry at events like this. The wonderful crew over at the AIPP (and all of the faceless behind the scenes helpers) do such a great job with things like the APPAs so it was great to just sit there and watch all of the beautiful work on display and the judges in action. And to those five craaaaaaaazy chicks who spent the weekend with me in our penthouse… LOVE YOU!!!!

I am a bit behind with sneak peeks etc as a result, but also because I’m currently in the process of an upgrade to my PC so much of it is out of action for the next couple of days so hopefully I will have the chance to catch up soon (always say that… never do….!!)

I’m now just over 32 weeks pregnant, so things are definitely slowing down now and so if I haven’t spoken to you already, I am only taking newborn and non-moving baby sessions at the moment. As much as I would love to say yes to everyone wanting to book, my body just won’t let me run after toddlers or cart around the usual gear I have, which is probably a good thing! I only have a few dates left in fact before I’m fully booked until having the baby anyway so if you are wanting newborn or baby sessions (anything before they’re on the move) then feel free to give me a buzz!

Little House | Commercial Photography, Melbourne

I have been a fan of the beautiful products of Little House for such a long time now, so I was so happy to be asked to photograph some of the new range for them. Mia has a beautiful woollen blanket from Little House (Jack) that I just adore, and seeing all of the new exciting things that are on offer made me drool just a little bit more.

Baby Alannah | Baby photographer, Melbourne

Do they get any more precious than this?! At one of my absolute favourite ages, 8 month old Alannah was an absolute superstar and a half for me at her session. We had some good bonding time to warm up to begin with (aka lots of play and tickles) and as soon as we found her button to get her going, there was no stopping her!

I love it when clients allow me to take the lead with clothing choices and positioning – my motto is always, SIMPLE IS BEST! You can never go wrong with simple, and this gorgeous thing stole the show anyway so it wouldn’t have mattered in the slightest what we had her dressed in.

Adored every single connecting moment with her – her smile gives me warm hugs from the inside out!

Baby J | Melbourne baby photographer

Another dark, cold and dreary Melbourne day, but certainly not while this man was around.  He made my world fill with sunshine and rainbows.

His eyes were to-die-for gorgeous and when he stared at me with them, you could really feel his beautiful personality. And of couse, what better way to show off those baby blues than to pop some beanies on him – doesn’t he just melt your heart?!

Baby Spencer | Newborn photography, Melbourne

Ok so I’m going to go on one of my newborn-fluffy-I’m-so-in-love-aren’t-they-a-miracle type of tangents today. But seriously, can you blame me when this is the type of thing I do for a living? I remember so vividly taking these first two black and white images below. The first was taken at such a beautiful, tender moment between the parents and even as I captured it I remember holding my breath in hope that I could replicate in print what I felt in person at the time. The second black and white photograph encompasses all of those beautiful newborn qualities I adore – baby fuzz, skin just before it starts to shed, teeny tiny eyelashes, ears, nose lips… it’s when you look at images like this in detail and appreciate them for everything they are that makes your heart sing like mine.

I didn’t actually realise until the session that this adorable, tiny little peanut (born at only 6lb!)  is the cousin of baby Xavier, my last newborn! How incredibly special it will be for these two cousins to grow up so close in age together (and live literally around the corner from each other too) - I can see them being the best of friends as they grow up!

{Kelly and Anthony, that little man of yours will grow so quickly and certainly won’t be little for long (well, apart from his toes Anthony…) so cuddle, and kiss and hug him tight and appreciate these beautiful new moments as your son grows into the man he is yet to become}

Caleb and Noah | Melbourne children’s photographer

Meet Caleb – green eyes, green shirt, green wall… does it get any better?!

Yep, that’s baby bro Noah… delish!! He had this adorable comfort habit of putting these two fingers into his mouth (rock on dude!!) and then gaze up at me with the most adorable baby blues complete with long black lashes (both of the boys had lashes most girls would kill for – seriously). Such a happy little thing he was too – such a joy connecting with these beautiful souls!

{What a beautiful morning with your gorgeous boys Paula. Such a treat for me – hugs for Noah and thank Caleb for being such a wonderful helper!}

Yummy Mummy | Maternity photography, Melbourne

There is something completely beautiful about my maternity clients. They have this amazing aura around them that always calms me and makes me happy. This beautiful pregnancy photography session is of the gorgeous Chrissy Torney, so you always know the session will be a special one when another photographer chooses you above all others to capture this amazing event in their lives.

I am so in love with sunlight and maternity – its like a beautiful dance of nature where everything becomes so simple, so pure. We were so incredibly blessed with both our timing and location for this session (which is what happens when you have a photographer as a client that allows you to choose the time and location as I please!) and I had a ball.

Chrissy’s daughter Paige is divine – she and Mia have had a playdate or two in the past, and always enjoy each other’s company. I was just as excited to see Paige at this session as to capture the beauty of Chrissy’s second pregnancy – these girls always make me smile.

{Can’t wait to meet the new addition when they arrive in a few weeks Chrissy , Paigey will make such a gorgeous older sister!}

More of Max | Melbourne baby photography

You know, I just realised it’s June today…

June. How did that happen?!

It’s true what they say that as you get older, life seems to get faster. Now I just need to find that dial to tell life to slow down, before I realise it’s the end of the year and wonder where 2009 went!

I had one of those moments on the weekend when photographing this little dude. He is a previous client of mine and I saw him for itty bitty newborn photography back when he was soooo little!!! I swear it felt like yesterday, and yet – here he was, almost 7 months later and sitting, laughing and virtually crawling all by himself. Loved seeing him again so much!

{How lucky do I feel getting to see him again, Rachael! Hope the rest of your weekend was good, and I will be in touch soon}
