Polka Dot Princess

“I know you, I walked with you Once Upon a Dream
I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam”

I got to relive my childhood today. I pretended to work while really I was watching Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” with this little adorable princess, Scarlett.

I had honestly forgotten how well I really knew that movie – as soon as it started I had flashbacks of all of the lines, songs, costumes, characters… oh dear, I really was obsessed with that movie when I was growing up!

My aim today was to try my white seamless with natural light as Justine wanted to try and emulate the same style of photos she had done for her other daughter when she was Scarlett’s age. Not the easiest thing to do when you don’t work with lighting, but we certainly gave it a red hot go!

So Princess Scarlett and I took photos in between watching Sleeping Beauty. When it was over and she said to her mum “Can I watch it again?” I was almost ready to say… “Yes mum, pleeeeease can we watch it again???” LOL

{She was a doll Justine, what a great morning! I told you, she just needed a warm up and she was good as gold!!}

A day in the life of a children’s photographer

Ok, so I don’t shoot studio, and I don’t say cheese, but it’s still grab-your-belly-and-roll-around-on-the-floor-kinda-funny (at least, it is to me…LOL)

I can guarantee it doesn’t matter how many times I watch that, it gets me every time!!

Beautiful Day

Woke up on Sunday to an absolutely gorgeous day. I was very excited as it was the first decent sunny morning we’d had for ages, and I had a session organised for some beautiful boys so I wanted to take advantage of the great weather. Lucky for me, my two boys that day loved being outside and didn’t mind being ushered all over the house as we were taking photos.

Some sneaky peeks of our morning (I know a few people who would die for that killer blue eye/pouty lip combo…)

Yep, I’m a photographer who just cannot get by without trying to get my sleepy photos.

I tell you, these kids had the most adorable outfits picked out. I think I could have stayed there playing dress ups with them all morning

Can’t beat the chance of jumping up and down on mum and dad’s bed and then falling in a big heap, can you?

Smoooooooosh

Yep, that’s right – I want to smoosh her, and smoosh her… the darling, gorgeous little Ellie from today’s session.

Lisa, her mum, is a fellow May Mummy. We had our babies one day apart (Mia is one day older than her) and I was so excited to photograph Elena today for her. Happy, beautiful, intelligent and inquisitive… it’s days like today that remind me how much I adore my job!!

Can it get any better than this?!

Go on, tell me you don’t have a big grin on your face right now after looking at her?

Kiss kiss for the horsey, Ellie…!

{Lis – how adorable was she today? Such a pleasure, and so wonderful to see you too – enjoy the sneaky peeks!}

Back from Brisbane

Well, I’m back home now after my Brisbane holiday and feeling a little more human.

We left on Friday and Mia was surprisingly good on the plane! We left home at 6am, flight was at 8am and she only spent about 10 minutes of the whole flight crying, so that was great! She fell asleep in the bus transfer to the hotel (BLISS finally!) but it was POURING with rain when we arrived. Our hotel room wasn’t ready for another 3 hours after we arrived so we decided to walk around and have something to eat. We hired a pram, so when the rain stopped, we went to the Botanical Gardens (where I was hoping to practice shooting) and of course, got stuck in a massive downpour with no umbrella or undercover areas to hide under. Mia thought it was hilarious. We ended up all climbing on top of some play equipment and trying to stay dry that way while waiting out the rain!

Here are just some of the beautiful friends of mine I spent some time with over the weekend and was lucky enough to snap some photos of:

Then Monday hit… LOL. I wish I could have skipped it altogether!!

7:30am: Jetstar call to say our 10am flight has been cancelled and can we go at 6:45pm instead (umm… NO!) I said we were travelling with a baby and can’t wait that long without a hotel, pram etc. So they put us on a Qantas flight for 1pm, but that arrived at a different airport to where our car was. They kindly organised a bus for us from one airport to another to collect the car and drive home.

12noon: We get to Brissie airport to check in, but Qantas have no record of us (of course they don’t). We’re told to go to Jetstar to sort it out. Jetstar then tell us they had us on a flight that left at 11am (obviously not since we’re standing there…) but finally found another one that left at 2pm. This one again arrived at another airport so we would have to catch a transfer bus they organised for us when we arrived. We were sent off to gate 36 to wait for the 2pm flight.

1:30pm: We’re sitting in an empty gate lounge. There’s no one around. I decide to check the screen above the gate lounge. Great. We’re not leaving from this lounge – we’ve been moved and no one has told us. Off we go to the new lounge…

2pm: Our 2pm flight still hasn’t left… we don’t even have a plane at the gate yet. Our lovely friend Jamie calls wondering how we’re going. I relay the story and he offers to pick Mia and I up from the airport while David catches the transfer bus to go and collect our car (THANK YOU!!!)

3pm: Plane takes off. Mia has cracked it, crying, screaming, tanties… what a joy.

5pm: Get to Melbourne. David heads off to the Jetstar counter to find out where the transfer bus is. Of course, there is no bus, and no one has organised a transfer from Brisbane for us. David ends up speaking to three people and finally the airport manager who gives him cash to catch a taxi to go and get the car and come home

6:10pm: We finally leave the airport and arrive home around 6:30pm.

So, what else can you do but laugh? (On a side note, I heard that Tuesday was even worse for flights in and out of Melbourne, so I should probably be thankful we left on the Monday?!)

I feel like the white rabbit

You know, the one from Alice in Wonderland…

I’m late
I’m late
For a very important date
No time to say hello, goodbye!
I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!

I’m back from Brisbane (but only just… full story to come later) but just wanted to pop on very quickly to post some sneak peeks from Liat’s newborn session last Thursday.

It was my first opportunity to photograph another little Mia other than my own. She was very well behaved, knew just when to pee all over daddy as soon as we’d taken her nappy away (haha… still can’t stop laughing over that timing… maybe it was because it was someone else getting pee’d on by a newborn instead of me!)

And this is my fave because of her gorgeous red pouty little lips here:

{Lovely to see you again L – enjoy the sneak peeks of your darling Mia}
