Help me… mum’s playing dress-ups again!

C’mon say it with me…

 ”Awwwwwww!!!”

Mia was given her very first tutu by my sister Emily for Christmas and today was the first day I popped her in it just to see if it fit her yet… unlucky for her, it did! And naturally I couldn’t let the moment go by without keeping photographic proof to mark the occasion.

It also gave me a chance to have another vintage processing and texture play as well – so here are some to show:

Clever little chicken

Little Jasmine was my shining star today – daughter of my lovely friend Elise who I got to play and practise with some more today.

At just under 10 months old, she is such a clever little munchkin – pointing out objects to her mum and dad when asked about them, babbling away and even shape sorting! I tell you, this kid is a star in the making (and I suppose it also helps having a speech pathologist as a mum… Elise, you’ve done an outstanding job raising her!)

Happy Australia Day

Ok, so the muffins are English…  close enough ;)

Eyelashes

I adore Mia’s eyelashes.

The are long, dark and luscious. As the shape of her eyelids means they droop down at the sides, they provide a natural eyelash curler for the outside lashes giving them a bit of a kink… adorable.

She gets a great pout to her too when she’s concentrating on something – her bottom lip is priceless.

I’m so in love!

This is what happens…

to a face when your eight month old daughter refuses to go to sleep and would rather chuck a massive tanty instead – charming…

{Got to love that red, blotchy face, puffy eyes and then topped off with crusty nose…eww}

Apologies for the slack effort in updating the blog too. I’ve been really busy lately so I haven’t had a chance to take some happy snaps, but hope to improve this situation when things calm down a bit ;)

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Texture play

I have never ventured into the world of textures… that is, until now!

This is a photo from one of my recent photos with my friend’s daughter. When I had originally uploaded all of the photos from that session to my computer and I was going through them, I had my finger on the delete button, as it wasn’t in focus. It can be caught at one of those ‘off’ moments where I was in between changing settings on my camera and my gorgeous little model wanted to have a change of scenery.

As she began to run around though, she just looked magical! Knowing my settings weren’t perfect at the time, I snapped a few anyway hoping I could salvage some later. I was a bit disappointed when I saw it wasn’t in focus, but for some reason I didn’t delete it. I kept coming back to it again and again.

I knew it needed something to make it useable, so I decided to have a little play with texture (thank you to my texture gurus who assisted in my learning process as well!) and now it’s an image I adore – it absolutely captures the mood from that day. Carefree, spirited youth… always moving on to the next exciting thing.

Hope you enjoy it too!

Downunder Darling

She was a quick one, this one… I don’t think my camera could keep up with her energy half the time (alright, *I* couldn’t keep up with her half the time!)

This is the beautiful Amy, daughter of my friend Tania who runs Darlings Downunder – and what a gorgeous little poppet she is too. In the stinking heat of Melbourne weather today (40 degrees plus – FUN!) I was lucky enough to be cocooned in the air conditioned comfort for most of the shoot while Tania played babysitter to Mia. How little Miss Amy could keep running and jumping, literally all morning, and barely stop for breath, well, it’s a credit to her mummy for being able to keep up with her! All the things I get to look forward to soon…

NOTE TO SELF: … arrange more 2.5 year old photoshoots and never have to pay for gym membership ever again.

{Tania – she was quick, but not quick enough obviously! She let me snap at least a few of her!!}

Too stinkin’ cute

It should honestly be illegal to be this cute. That, or she should come with a license… a license to grin.

Today was just one of those wow days – you know, the kind of days where everything in the checklist gets ticked off?

  • Gorgeous daughter of a friend of mine – check
  • Beautiful home – check
  • To die for light – check

I absolutely could not wait to get home afterwards and start proofing and looking through the session again had me in absolute stitches as I remembered back to all of the quirky little things she did all day. I could have snapped photos of her all day long – what an absolute treasure to be around. I love having friends with beautiful children that I can practise my photography on all day long!

Gosh it’s hard work being out and about…

“Hipp-op-ot-amus”

Another day, another play!

I got this green hippo top for Mia before she was born (not knowing whether she would be a boy or girl) and thought at the time it was pretty neutral. Every time I put her in it though, she looks so much like a boy! I think it’s time to bring out the hair clips again…

Another new trick she’s learned: tilting her head to one side when I move the camera…see? She’s a classic poser in the making and she doesn’t even know it yet. Gee I’m good training her so young ;)

It has always amazed me how someone so little could have such big feet…

And finally, can anyone say CHEEEEEEESE?
