New Years Eve

It’s another gorgeous day in Melbourne… NOT!

41 degrees in the sweltering Summer sun is not my idea of fun. Whoever thinks they prefer Summer over Winter is kidding themselves… give me a freezing day and a warm fire anyday!

It’s pretty hard trying to stay cool in this heat. We thankfully installed air conditioning in our place a couple of years ago so it has been a life saver (especially while I was pregnant last year and even more so now that Mia has arrived).

Mia’s been quite good today considering, so I do have to be thankful for that. I’ve had her in just a top and her nappy most of the day (a gorgeous little Country Road number she got for Christmas… thanks Bes!!) and now she’s lounging around on the floor in the nude and no doubt feeling a lot more comfortable. It’s the one time that tiles are a lifesaver; they remain so incredibly cool when everything else is so hot.

I wanted to play around with some vintage colour today too (inspired by her beautiful little top). I had originally popped her on the couch with her teddy bear to keep her happy while I hung out her nappies on the line but she looked so cute sitting there I couldn’t resist grabbing the camera and snapping a few…

Christmas was also lovely too – it was even more exciting knowing that it was Mia’s first Christmas too (although we were much more excited about that concept – she didn’t know quite what was going on and being passed from person to person over lunch wasn’t her idea of a good time…) Still, it was wonderful all the same. I know I normally post my own photos on the blog, but here’s a quick snap from Chrissy taken by my gorgeous hubby!

It’s beginning…

… to look a lot like Christmas!

Where has the year gone?

A little over seven months ago, I had no idea what whether Mia was a boy or a girl let alone know her personality, quirks and intellect. And to think how far she’s come in those seven months and how much I’ve grown emotionally as a person and as a mother… amazing. God I love her!

Yes, apparently licking the cot is hilarious…

The Red Hat

Mia received a gorgeous red Oobi beanie as a gift prior to her birth (thank you Sacha!!) and I’m a bit upset at the moment for two reasons:

1) We’re in Summer and there really aren’t very many opportunities to wear a beanie nowdays!
2) Even if it weren’t Summer, she’s starting to get a bit big for it (sniff!)

So keeping all of that in mind, I just wanted to have a final shoot with her wearing it – I just love great hats on kids, especially bold colours. They look fantastic in photos and frame faces really well!

Plus another opportunity for me to practice again and play around with some new actions… and can never get too much of that.

She was actually singing to herself in this series (hence the funny faces). I have no idea what set her off but she was having a ball!

Christmas cards are done

I’m very excited about our Christmas cards this year. It’s the first time I’ve ever sent out personalised cards and it was so much fun being able to use Little Miss Mia as the cover model.

I probably should have put more effort into making her look a little more Christmas-like, but I was still thrilled with the results. I just ran out of time in trying to find something to put her in! I suppose I could have just wrapped some tinsel around her leg or something… oh well! LOL

So now they’re all sent out and should be arriving in letterboxes this week!

Barwon Heads

We got back last night from our two days away in Barwon Heads – it was so nice to just leave the house and go somewhere, even if just for a short while. The beach house we stayed in overlooking the water was lovely and it was great to just be able to sit and look out over the ocean – very relaxing.

It was also Mia’s first trip to the beach and while she loved looking at the water from afar, I don’t think she was quite ready for the cold water on her tootsies just yet!! Maybe next time!

The obligatory photo share…

Was able to catch a few of my gorgeous husband as well on Monday night when we went for a beach stroll: david1.jpg

Oh what a beautiful morning

The weather was lovely… Mia’s mood was not. So what do I decide to do but to make my daughter sit through another session of me using her as a model to get some practice with.

Lucikly for me, I think the fact that she was bound to the Bumbo seat I had her in worked as she had no choice but to sit there and look at me (mwuaahahaa… I’m a mean mother) and I did actually manage to get a few smiles out of her! I decided to use the opportunity to practise white on white and was pretty happy with the exposure (no visible blowouts in the histogram but only a teensy bit after PPing I think…. ah well!)

So here she is dreading what’s coming next…

But then she realised it wasn’t too bad

And even started chatting to me…

… before she starting sucking on her bottom lip again (poor thing, I think her gums are bothering her a bit – it’s either sucking on her bottom lip or chewing on her fingers at the moment – non stop!)

We’ve also decided to go away to Barwon Heads overnight at the start of next week which I’m so excited about. I honestly cannot remember the last time we went away… (I’m thinking our honeymoon… and if that’s true, that’s very sad!) so even though only a short while, it will be nice to have a break :)
