The Little House Blanket

… as if she hasn’t had enough already!

I wanted to try getting some photos with Mia playing with her beautiful Little House cot blanket (it’s a beautiful 100% merino wool blanket she received as a gift) as I thought the colours might work well together. That, and I also still had the purple material on loan from the nappy photoshoot and wanted to take the opportunity to grab some more of that fantastic colour!

Mia has a most annoying habit at the moment of putting her fingers in her mouth all the time. So, I don’t know why I was so surprised that the moment I put her down on the blanket the first thing she did was grab it and stick it in her mouth… Trying to remove her fingers from her mouth and keep her distracted long enough to pull the camera back up and snap away was a lot harder than I had anticipated. I think out of the 20 minutes that I was standing above her trying to get a decent photo, only a handful of them worked out. In the end, I just gave in (much to her dismay as the ‘game’ of mummy playing with her hands was now over).

The good news is that I was able to get a few good shots in – more experience for me, and more embarrassing photos to show at her 21st…

Mia the supermodel

I was asked recently if Mia would be able to model a new version of the Haute Pocket nappy (I use modern cloth nappies with Mia) for the Haute Baby Products wholesale website.

Of course, I said yes! Personally I couldn’t think of a better baby to do so ;)

For anyone who is interested in using modern cloth, or who can’t understand why I would bother, I recommend visiting Tania’s site at Darlings Downunder. She has probably the best available modern cloth range in Australia – but be careful, as it can get very addictive… I won’t even guess how many I have stashed away in my cupboard and I take great delight in matching Mia’s nappies with her clothes that day. It’s a small thrill for a stay at home mum!!

Anyway, I fashioned a home made studio in my lounge room (aka a purple tablecloth and a large window – bless natural light!), took some snaps, and voilà! (and yes, I know, I chopped off her foot in one of them… I’m still beating myself up about that!)

Miss Mia on solids!

My little girl is growing up!

In honour of her turning 6 months old this week, we decided to start her on solid food. It wasn’t a huge success, but she really enjoyed herself (I think she was more interested in trying to grab the bowl and spoon than eat what we put in her mouth), which was the main thing! :)

It was so funny watching her expressions when the food finally got into her mouth. She was so fascinated with the process that by the time she got the food in her mouth, I think she thought the whole thing was a little overrated!

So, here’s a quick storyboard in honour of her achievement!

Christmas session

Yesterday I was asked to photograph some children of a friend of mine so that they could use the prints as presents to the kid’s parents for Christmas. Lucky for them they were babysitting the kids all weekend so it was easy to get them out and about for the photo session without their parents getting suspicious!

We have a lot of lovely park areas in my suburb and it was a good opportunity for me to go driving around and looking for potential locations. We ended up shooting at around 5pm but we probably could have gone a bit later to catch some softer light. Still, with a crying Mia in hand, you work with what you have!

It was a lovely idea to have prints done for presents for Christmas (and what parent wouldn’t adore gorgeous prints of their kids as presents?)

Just playing…

I vowed to myself that I would get some more practise in with Little Miss Mia the other day, and so I did (and she was very obliging too – poor thing is not yet six months old and she’s already used to me shoving a camera in her face day and night).

All shot with my 50 1.8 – completely blown the whites (blergh!) but still deciding if I like manual or aperture priority better… decisions, decisions!

Little Liesel

I love newborns!!

The lovely Tanya asked me to come over to do a session for her beautiful one month old newborn girl. Even though my Little Miss Mia is only five and a half months old, I still can’t get over how quickly they grow. Leisel was very patient through most of the session and was even good enough to fall fast asleep in mum’s arms at the end.

There was a gorgeous skylight right in the dining room that we were able to catch most of the light from which was great for me. Leisel’s room also had a good source of light from her bedroom window too which made it easier.

Hope you enjoy the photos Tanya!

Isabella

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the beautiful little Isabella today. One of the most gorgeous little girls I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with!

Her eyes were like mirrors and she had a cheeky grin that absolutely melted my heart. I was so pumped full of adrenalin leaving this shoot as I just couldn’t wait to get back home and start proofing the session! The time spent post processing her session was an absolute delight.

So, a shout out to mum Mards – hope you like the photos and had as much fun as I did!
